What’s the easist way to get information on different colleges?
Come to HOPE’s 18th Annual Collage Fair on October 19, 2007 from 10:00 a.. to 1:00 p.m. at the Reggie Lewis Center in Roxbury, MA. At this Collage fair, you can meet over 70 college and university representatives.
Can I get HIV from sitting on a toilet seat?
No. Once HIV is exposed to oxygen, it is destroyed.
Can I get enough nutrition from eating rice and beans every day?
Eating rice and beans every day is fine, however it is important to supplement rice and beans with fruits, vegetables, dairy and meat. If you are a vegetarian, make sure that you get adequate vitamins and minerals (such as calcium, vitamin D and vitamin B12) from other non-animal sources, such as legumes.
The USDA’s Dietary Guidelines1 define a healthy diet as one that:
- “Emphasizes fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and fat-free or low-fat milk and milk products;
- Includes lean meats, poultry, fish, beans, eggs, and nuts; and
- Is low in saturated fats, trans fats, cholesterol, salt (sodium), and added sugars.”
So it is OK to eat rice and beans every day, just make sure that you also include fruits and vegetables.
If I am undocumented, can I still go to college?
Of course! You can go to college if you are undocumented, but you cannot receive money from the government via the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). However, there are many private organizations that offer scholarship money to undocumented students. A HOPE College Readiness Advisor can help you do a scholarship search that fits your needs.
Can I get a sexually transmitted infection from kissing?
The only sexually transmitted infection that can spread through kissing is Herpes. There are two types of Herpes, type 1 which is oral and results in cold sores on the mouth, and type 2, which brings genital sores. Avoid kissing your partner if he/she is having a Herpes outbreak.
