Accomplishments
College Readiness
HOPE has provided college readiness services for the last 30 years (1976 to 2006), and has:
- assisted thousands of low-income students
- helped place over 14,000 people in higher education
- generated over $200 million in financial aid assistance
- made a total lifetime economic impact estimate of over $6 billion.
Citizens Bank recognized HOPE as one of the original “Community Gems” in 2004 for its college readiness programs.
After School
The United Way of Massachusetts Bay selected HOPE as one of seven organizations to participate in the “Latino After School Initiative (LASI)” and LASI Network.
Community Technology Centers
HOPE has served over 7,500 community residents through its centers in Boston and Lawrence.
HOPE is an active member of the Timothy Smith Network, which helped to facilitate a recent grant from the Microsoft Corporation valued at over $215,000.
The National Council of La Raza (of which HOPE is an affiliate member) has selected HOPE to participate in the NCLR-Microsoft Corporation Partnership, which will work with HOPE to develop a comprehensive participant tracking and management information system.
HOPE EITC Tax Clinics
In the past three years, HOPE has assisted over 5,000 individuals through the Boston and Lawrence clinics, generating over $2 million in EITC returns and assistance with over $500,000 in federal tax returns and over $200,000 in state tax returns.
HOPE Disease Prevention and Education
HOPE has been awarded several multi-year grants (over $7 million) from the National Institutes of Health, the federal Office of Minority Health, the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the state Department of Public Health and the Boston Department of Public Health—all supplemented by private foundation support—in order to support the replication, adaptation, tailoring and re-invention of science-based prevention interventions redesigned by HOPE for the Latino community in Massachusetts.
Health Promotion
HOPE has reached over 12,000 individuals through the outreach and community engagement efforts of the HOPE PLENA Promotores de Salud and various community-level “social marketing campaigns” (including: Cuida Tu Vida, Cara a Cara a la Realidad and Si Se Puede campaigns).
The program has received numerous awards, recognitions and citations from the United Way, the state and city public health departments and private sector corporations and foundations.
HOPE CASA Health Workforce Development Career Ladder & Internship Program
The Massachusetts Department of Public Health, the Northeast Regional Addictions Institute and the national Latino Behavioral Health Conference have identified HOPE to replicate the CASA program in the New England states (for potential national dissemination) and participate in the state’s new Office of Cultural Competency.
HOPE “Proyecto PLAN” Community Leadership Development
The National Council of La Raza (NCLR) selected HOPE as the 1995 NCLR National Affiliate of the Year in recognition of its service to the Latino community, community leadership development and youth development initiatives.
HOPE YouthPLAN and CommUNITYPlAN
Through its growing PLENA Promotores model, HOPE has developed years of community outreach, community mobilization, community support and community action on public health issues. The Boston Public Health Commission selected HOPE to provide healthcare navigation and patient education as part of the Boston Health Disparities Project.
